THE ONLY PERSON WE FOUND HANGING OUT down by the loading dock was Bruno Kincaid. I had no idea what he was, a shifter or something else, but he was essentially our version of Swamp Thing. He didn’t hang out with many people at the Cathedral, but he was there when we needed help. That day, we found him sunning himself through an open door on the dock. When we asked him if he’d seen Emma hanging around over the past few days, he acknowledged it but seemed confused.

“She said she was moving potions for Winter,” Bruno explained. “It didn’t seem odd to me.”

“Did she take them out in a vehicle?” Lincoln asked.

“No.” Bruno shook his head. “She had a hand truck and was gone for about thirty minutes. Maybe forty-five, but that would be pushing it. The hand truck was empty when she came back.”

I pursed my lips and cocked my head. “Which direction?”

“I’m not a hundred percent certain,” Bruno replied ruefully. “I just saw her walk through the door. I don’t know where she was going.”

“She wouldn’t have risked going around to the front of the building,” I said. “That would be the dumbest move she could make. She had to leave that way.” I waved toward a very large Detroit neighborhood. “She could’ve taken the potions anywhere in there.”

“Maybe Angelina will luck out when it comes to finding a building,” Lincoln suggested.

“Perhaps.” Something was bubbling close to the surface, something I knew I was missing. Then it came to me. “Just because she didn’t have a vehicle here doesn’t mean she didn’t have one pick her up two blocks away.”

Realization registered on Lincoln’s face. “That’s a very good point. All she would’ve had to do is walk two blocks, and she would’ve been home free.”

“Except this isn’t the best neighborhood,” Bruno noted. “We watch our people, but there’s no stopping someone from trying to mug her as soon as she’s beyond the fence.”

“She’s magical and can protect herself,” I said. “For all we know, there were two other Gorgons waiting on the other side of the gate. They can glamour themselves and can scare off anybody they want with their snake hair. She would’ve had an easy exit.”

“And you’re blaming yourself for that,” Lincoln surmised. “That’s not fair. You couldn’t have known.”

“It feels like someone should’ve known,” I argued.

“Maybe, but there’s no going back now. We have to move forward. Where is your gut telling you to look?”

Uncomfortable with the question, I replied, “I thought we were waiting for Angelina to show up and save the day.”

“It’s going to take her time to come up with a list. You must have an idea.”

I could only think of one place. “Westwood Park.”

“The development you went to with Jacob and Angelina the other day,” Lincoln said, considering. “You saw the symbol there.”

“It has to mean something.”

“I agree. That’s where we should go.”

“I’ll go with you,” Bruno offered.

“We need a fighting team to stay here. Jacob can be part of it.
